Works of Akhtar Hameed Khan recalled
Speakers at a memorial meeting in city on Tuesday said the world renowned social scientist Prof Akhter Hameed Khan had in fact brought about a revolutionary change in the socio-economic life in Comilla District through his highly innovative "Comilla Model" in the cooperative movement during the late 1950s, reports BSS.
They said the Bangladesh Academy of Rural Development (BARD) complex at Kotbari and the Kotwali Thana Central Cooperative Association (KTCCA) in Comilla would always stand out as the testimony to what this great humanist social reformer and teacher had borne out of his thought for the welfare of the people of Comilla district at that time.
With Former Presidential Adviser and Director of BARD Md Azizul Huq in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by A Z Salam, Habibul Islam Ratan, Zakir Hussain, Anwaruzzaman Khan, Kader Kabi, Abdul Mannan Mohammad Soleman and Md Abdul Quddus at the CIRDAP auditorium.
The Chairman of the memorial meeting and the speakers, who were close associates of Prof Akhter Hameed Khan during the cooperative movement in Comilla in the late 1950s, said this great man had won the hearts of all in Comilla district only by his way of work and behaviour.
They said the highly independent minded Prof Khan, who was a firebrand ICS officer during the British rule, did not hesitate even a moment to quit the government job and join as the Principal of Comilla Victoria College.
The speakers said a sizeable number of highly placed and dignified personalities in all fields now were his students that was why his period was still being regarded as the 'Golden Era' of Comilla Victoria College.
They prayed for the peace of the departed soul of Prof. Akhter Hameed Khan and conveyed their haeart-felt sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
