Dr. Khan's Legacy Lives On

The house where Dr. Khan lived in Comilla (Bangladesh) has been named "Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan Museum."

The road leading from Comilla (Bangladesh) airport to the KTCCA office, formerly called Abhoy Ashram, has been renamed to Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan Road.

The Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) library has been renamed Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan Library.

October 10, 2003:

On October 10, 2003, the fourth "Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan Development Forum" was organized by the Orangi Pilot Project at the NIPA Auditorium in Karachi. Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, was present at the occasion.

According to The Dawn of October 11, 2003, "Prof Talat Wazarat, speaking on the occasion, said that late Akhtar Hameed Khan always served others selflessly and made efforts to organize the poor, so that they were better equipped to solve their own problems. She Mr Khan believed that the people with proper guidance could solve all their problems.

Earlier, Ghulam Kibriya, who had a long association with the late Khan, shared his memories and experiences with the audience regarding the work of Mr Khan. He said that with guidance from the late Khan the people of Orangi had improved their quality of life."

"ISLAMABAD: Tribute paid to Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: Speakers, including Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, on Saturday praised the services of late Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan, a renowned social scientist, for the betterment of the poor segment of society.

They were speaking at the premiere of a documentary screened at the auditorium of the National Insurance Company. Rural development experts, social scientists, diplomats and journalists watched the documentary titled A vision unveiled and applauded the producer for highlighting the achievements and services of Dr Khan.

The finance minister said Dr Khan was a symbol to follow for those who were in the field of rural development. He called for carrying forward the vision of late Dr Khan who, he said, was a legend and others needed to learn from his experience.

He said Dr Khan had dedicated his life to the cause of serving people, especially the poor, in the region. He said the documentary should be screened on the electronic media and used as a medium of training.

Mr Aziz said the documentary showed the potential of our country. It also tells us that we have human capital, human resources and power of the people, he added.

He called for working together and utilizing the energies and carry the message of Dr Khan forward to make Pakistan an economically viable, vibrant and strong country.

Shoaib Sultan Khan said he had never seen a person of the stature of late Dr Khan in his whole life. He also commended the services of Dr Khan for the socio-economic uplift of the poorest of the poor in the region. He called upon rural development experts to follow the footprints of Dr Khan if they wanted to really serve the poor segment of society. -APP"

On October 28, 2003, a press release was issued regarding the launching of the book Allama Mashriqi & Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan: Two Legends of Pakistan.

November 14, 2003:

On November 14, 2003, Mr. Nasim Yousaf sent his book, Allama Mashriqi & Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan: Two Legends of Pakistan (published in October, 2003), to President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali through Mr. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, the Pakistan Ambassador in Washington D.C., USA.

On October 09, 2004, Dr. Khan's death anniversary was observed.

November 17, 2005:

On November 17, 2005, the sixth Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan Development Forum was held:
